Well, to explain it in really simple terms: see it as a new version of the White Pages. Only now, you decide what information will be available next to your name. You can make a personal profile at RealMee and we will make sure that search engines like Google, Yahoo! and Bing find it when people look for your name. The search engine results pages will contain a link to your profile. Now, you'll be found the way you want to be found. Simple as that.Yes, making a personal profile is free and will remain free. What we do plan to do in the future is to offer you suggestions for other relevant online products and services. If you like them and decide to use them we will earn some money.Yes, you can. We don't like being locked-in by services ourselves so if you decide to leave you can whenever you want. Just indicate under 'unsubscribe' at the edit environment of your profile that you want to delete your profile. Simple as that. No, we are not. We play by the rules set by search engines. This means no cloaking, linkfarming and all those other geeky terms that describe ways of influencing search engines in prohibited ways. We know we cannot build a solid service based on lies. We simply make sure your personal profile is found by search engines and the best way to help improve your own ranking is by linking to your own RealMee profile from wherever you think it might be relevant, e.g. from your Facebook, LinkedIn, or MySpace profiles.Widgets are little mini-websites that you can display on your RealMee profile. For example, if you have a photo account with Flickr you can automatically display your latest pictures at your profile. You can do so by copying the snippet of code provided by Flickr in the content field of a widget. You can add widgets in the edit environment under 'widgets'. Currently it is possible to use widgets of some of the most popular online services. Besides Flickr, examples of these services are Slide, last.fm, YouTube, Google Video, del.icio.us, Twitter, Jaiku, Photobucket, Bubbleshare, Plazes, MyBlogLog, Ustream, Chatango, Meebo, and CoComment.First of all, you decide what information will be available on your personal profile. This information can be viewed by anyone who views your personal profile. Therefore we advise you not to publish your email address or phone number on your profile in order to avoid spam. This also isn't necessary, since visitors can leave you a message without knowing your email address if you keep the option to 'leave a message'. And anyway, we will never share the email address you provided at registration with anyone else.The idea behind RealMee is that you will be found by people looking for you through search engines so the answer is: anyone can view your personal profile. Therefore, think about what you want to share with the world.No, we will never put any advertising messages on your personal profile. What we do plan to do in the future is to offer you suggestions for other relevant online products and services. If you like them and decide to use them we will earn some money. In any case, visitors of your profile will not notice anything. We want it to be your profile as much as possible.That depends. Normally, it will take a few days before your RealMee profile will be found by search engines. You will receive a monthly email from us with useful facts about your profile. One of the things included in the mail is your ranking in Google, Yahoo! and Bing. This way, you can monitor your own search engine ranking. The best way to help improve your own ranking is by linking to your RealMee profile from wherever you think it might be relevant, e.g. from your Facebook, LinkedIn, or MySpace profile.Although we will do anything we can to rank your profile high in the search engines, the ranking depends on a number of factors. We cannot control all of them. For example, if a well known public figure shares your name, they will be referenced a lot when people look for your name. In that case, you have to add more personal detail to your profile. Then, it is more likely that a combination of your name and some keyword (e.g. your school, your hobbies etc.) will return a link to your profile. The best way to help improve your own ranking is by linking to your own RealMee profile from wherever you think it might be relevant, e.g. from your Facebook, LinkedIn, or MySpace profile.The best way to help improve your own ranking is by linking to your RealMee profile from wherever you think it might be relevant, e.g. from your Facebook, LinkedIn, or MySpace profile.If you have forgotten your password click 'Login' at the top of RealMee. The email contains a link which you have to click for security reasons in order to activate your personal profile. By activating the link we will know that you have access to the email account you provided when registering. This way we can assume that you are who you say you are.Once every month you will receive an email from RealMee stating interesting statistics regarding your personal profile, e.g. how many visits your profile got during the last month, what kind of search terms people used to find your profile etc. We think you will like this! Additionally, once a while, you will receive an email with news about developments at RealMee that might interest you. That's it!In the monthly email with statistics your ranking in www.google.com is determined by performing a search for your name between brackets. By searching between brackets a search will be performed for content that exactly matches this query, in the same order. This way, we know that it is a search for your name. A search for your name without using brackets means that a search engine will search for all content which contains these words, but also in mixed order. Subsequently, this is less likely to be a search for your name. We understand that most people perform name searches without using brackets. In a while, search engines will consider RealMee as an entity more relevant because more people will use the service and more links to RealMee will appear on the Web. At that point, a search without brackets for your name will also result in a high ranking for your personal profile at RealMee. A little more patience, please! Add RealMee to your email contact list now! This guarantees that you will always receive your personal profile statistics and messages from people that want to contact you through your site. In Hotmail, you can do so by clicking on 'Mark as safe' next to ' info@realmee.com'. In Gmail, you can do so by clicking on the arrow next to 'Reply' and selecting 'Add info@realmee.com to your contact list' in the dropdown menu. In Yahoo, hover over the underlined email address ' info@realmee.com', and from the menu that appears choose Add to Address Book. That's it! Does old personal profile information remain visible one way or the other? No, old information on your personal profile is deleted permanently and cannot be found on RealMee. That said, it is possible that some parts of the old information have been stored elsewhere on the web so always think twice before posting stuff on your profile.OpenID is a free and easy way to use your digital identity across the Internet. This software framework fits perfectly in the vision of RealMee of an Open Web.
RealMee is an OpenID provider which means you can use your personal RealMee URL - typically www.realmee.com/number/your-name - to subscribe for or login to other websites that support OpenID. This means you need just one username and password to create your profile at RealMee which will let you use that identity across the Web. Simple and safe! And it works with personal domains (e.g. www.yourname.com) attached to RealMee as well.
We are not an OpenID relying party - accepting other OpenID’s to create an account at or login to RealMee - (yet) because that would make less sense for a service such as RealMee that aims to be your central identity provider.
Please note that OpenID is still in the adoption phase but is becoming more and more popular, as large organizations like AOL, Microsoft, Sun, Novell, etc. begin to accept and provide OpenIDs. Today it is estimated that there are over 160-million OpenID enabled URIs with nearly ten-thousand sites supporting OpenID logins.Hey, my 'work and education' info shows up under 'hobbies and more'? This means your a RealMee afficionado of the first hour! In the first versions of RealMee you used to enter your 'work and education' info in free fields under the section 'more about me'. In more recent versions of the RealMee we moved to a tabbed layout of the edit section. With this move, the 'more about me' section disappeared and the free fields moved to the section 'hobbies and more'. So, this is were your work related info is. And not under the new tab 'work and education'. No problem, you can leave it like it is.You get monthly updates from RealMee about the statistics regarding your personal profile. Nonetheless, you can track these statistics yourself as well. If you use Google Analytics, paste your personal tracking code in a widget in the following way:
<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/ga.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-XXXXXXX-X");
pageTracker._initData();
pageTracker._trackPageview();
</script>
